The Author

Catharine Slade-Brooking is a designer, author and educationalist. She started her career as an illustrator and hand-lettering artist working on new brand start-ups, packaging design, advertising, book and magazine publishing. Her client list includes Glaxo Smith Kline, ICI, BBC, The National Trust, Lloyds Bank, WWF and the Sunday Times Magazine.

She has written widely on graphic design subjects including her book published by Running Press ‘The Encyclopaedia of Illustration Techniques’ and a regular feature column in “The Artists & Illustrators Magazine. She has exhibited work nationally and internationally from the Mall and Westminster Galleries in London to the Norsk Farmasihistorisk Museum, Oslo.

Having over 20 years experience in higher education as a Senior Lecturer and Teaching Fellow, she has given papers at national and international conferences on subjects including ‘The Nature of Creativity’ and ‘Cultures and Design’. Having worked with over a thousand BA and MA design students, she lectures in the UK at the University for the Creative Arts in Farnham, Surrey.
